Biography
I am a second year PsyD student at the University of Denver. Prior to beginning my doctorate program at DU, I earned my MA from the Sport Psychology department at John F. Kennedy University. At the undergraduate level, I attended Alfred University in upstate New York. At Alfred, I majored in Psychology, minored in Social Justice Studies, and played soccer.
I believe we all bring unique strengths to the table and I am determined to help clients leverage their courage and resilience in reclaiming choice and control in their lives. Feeling like a prisoner to our mind is exhausting and I am passionate about understanding clients’ stories and partnering with them as they become active agents, shaping their day to day lives. Change and the therapeutic process can feel daunting and it takes bravery to dedicate time and energy to your own growth.
I aim to provide a joyful and reflective environment for clients to process, grow, and develop through an empathetic and encouraging approach. I view the therapeutic relationship as core to this process and work to cultivate a space free from judgement where clients feel comfortable bringing their full, authentic self into the room.
In my free time, I enjoy live music, pickup sports, spending time with friends and family,
snowboarding, bouldering, and hanging with my dog, Eleni.
What would your clients say about you as a therapist?
I think clients would describe me as a compassionate and empathetic listener who truly sees and values them as individuals. I’d like to think we create a safe, non-judgmental space where they feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and emotions. Clients have told me that I have a calming presence, and they feel supported in their journey towards self-discovery and healing. I really value a collaborative approach, where I encourage clients to take an active role in their own growth, helping them find their own answers and empowering them to make meaningful changes in their lives. I also believe in bringing in moments of levity and humor when appropriate, which helps to ease the process and reminds us that even in challenging times, there can be room for lightness and connection.
Do you have any pets?
Yes! I have a three-year-old Goldendoodle named Eleni. Despite her breed’s name, she has a blue merle coat that doesn’t match the “golden” color you’d expect, but her non-stop puppy
energy is congruent.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Watching podcasts instead of listening to them.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
On my first day at a new middle school, we got stuck in traffic and were running late. Moments before I walked in, my mom spilled hot coffee on my white basketball shorts. With a large brown stain on my lap and nearly 30 minutes late, I walked into class as everyone’s eyes turned to me. It’s a funny story to tell now, but teenage Sam was so embarrassed- poor guy!
What is your dream vacation?
Right now? This is tough. I’d say Tokyo. The energy of the city seems contagious and I love Japanese food. I’d also have to make a trip to a nearby ski resort while I’m out there. Ask me another day and my answer might change 🙂
