Biography
I am a doctoral student at the University of Denver, looking to specialize in working with anxiety. I first discovered my interest in psychology during my undergrad when someone close to me began to struggle with his own mental health. Since then, I have been fortunate to study at a few different schools and learn from great mentors in the field. My goal in the therapy room is to develop strong relationships with my clients and work toward alleviating unnecessary suffering.
I received my bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College where I played football and ran track. Following four years in Maine, I spent two years as a 4th-grade teacher in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. As much as I enjoyed being in the front of the classroom, I decided to head back to New England for graduate school.
Q+A with Seamus:
What is your favorite TV show?
It is difficult to narrow this down to just one show, so I am adjusting the question. My favorite TV shows are True Detective Season 1, The Wire, The Sopranos, Broadchurch, The Americans, and AfterLife. When I am not in the mood for shows like that, I will throw on an old episode of The Office.
What are your favorite podcasts?
I love most things from The Ringer. Right now I am listening to The Ryen Russillo Show, The Bill Simmons Podcast, and Binge Mode. Always looking for suggestions too!
IKON or Epic?
I was talked into getting an IKON pass this year, but I’ve never skied before so not sure my answer to this question holds any weight.
Where are you from?
I have moved around a lot, but I typically say, “the east coast” since my immediate family lives in Boston and Rhode Island. I was born in D.C. and spent 10 years in Toronto, Canada, but when I think of home, it is Little Compton, Rhode Island.
Do you have any pets?
I have a 5-year-old (maybe 6 now?) Goldendoodle named Jimmer. He still has puppy energy and I try and get to the park with him as often as I can.
What would your clients say about you as a therapist?
I like to think my clients would describe me as easygoing, kind, and personable. On a good day, I like to think that I am funny and have a good sense of humor, but I am not sure all my clients would agree!
What is a weird fact about you that most people wouldn’t know?
I am a BIG knitter. I knit hats, scarves, sweaters, and even the occasional blanket. I started when I was roughly 10 years old and continue to knit whenever I can (mostly when I am watching TV at night).
What was your most embarrassing moment?
On my first day of school ever, I was stung by a bee at recess and had an accident in my pants. I am happy to report that my school experience has improved significantly since that tough first day.
What are your favorite hobbies?
This is always a tough question. The honest answer is Crossfit, but I am not sure I want to be seen as a “workout guy.” I’ve competed in some local Crossfit competitions and try my best to do something active each day. I hope that when I am done with school, I will have more time to pursue other hobbies.
